Peter Norreys
Group Leader

Research Interests: Fast Ignition, Laser-driven particle acceleration, Fast Electron Transport, X- ray sources.

Background: PhD. Royal Holloway College.

Distinctions: Received the 'Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research' by American Physical Society in 2006 for work in the field of Fast Ignition ICF. He is an Individual Merit Fellow of STFC, a visiting Professor at Imperial College London and is a Divisional Associate Editor of 'Physical Review Letters'

Peter was a founding member of the PPG in 1997, and has lead this group since 2001. He joined CLF in 1990.

Theoretical Plasma Physicist

Research Interests: Electron Acceleration, Wave- Kinetic Theory, Intense Laser-Plasma Interactions.

Background: PhD. University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands.  Post-doctoral post with Prof Bingham in SSTD.

Distinctions: ICTP Summer College in Plasma Physics “Best Presentation Prize” 2007.

Alex Robinson
Theoretical Plasma Physicist

Research Interests: Proton Acceleration, Fast Electron Transport, Fast Ignition.

Background: PhD. at Imperial College London (supervised by Prof Tony Bell).

Distinctions: Awarded the 2006 IoP Computational Physics Thesis Prize.

Robbie Scott

Theoretical Plasma Physicist

Received a PhD in laser plasma physics within the plasma Physics Group at Imperial College London. Supervised by Professors Peter Norreys and Steve Rose and spent one year at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Research Interests: Inertial confinement fusion, fast electron transport induced by ultra intense laser-solid interactions, fast ignition, future neutron sources.

Background: Undergraduate degree: Mechanical Engineering at University of Edinburgh (1997-2001), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory ISIS Spallation Neutron Source (2003-2007): Target Station 2 Target, Reflector and Pre-Moderator Project/Design Engineer.

Tony Bell
Visiting Scientist

Research Interests: electron transport, fusion, magnetic field generation, cosmic ray acceleration, numerical modelling, Vlasov-Fokker-Planck, magnetohydrodynamics.

Background: MA & PhD Cambridge, held positions at RAL, Imperial College (Professor). He is now a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. Tony first joined the CLF in 1979.

Teodora Baeva
Visiting Scientist

Research Interests: High brightness X-ray generation; intense laser-plasma interaction physics.

Background: PhD at the University of Dusseldorf, Germany in 2008 (supervised by Prof Alexander Pukhov). Teodora is currently working in the financial services industry, while maintaining her keen interests in physics at the intensity frontier.

Distinctions: Book entitled 'High Harmonic Generation from Relativistic Plasmas: Relativistic Similarity, Sub-Attosecond Pulses and Coherent X-rays' VDM Verlag (2008).

Nathan Sircombe
Nathan Sircombe
Visiting Scientist

Research Interests: High intensity laser-plasma interactions; inertial confinement fusion; new computational methods.

Background: PhD at the University of Warwick 2006 (supervised by Dr Tony Arber). Nathan currently works at AWE plc, Aldermaston in the plasma physics group. He maintains a wide range of interests in high energy density science.

Robin Marjoribanks

Visiting Scientist

Research Interests: Intense laser-plasma interactions, high harmonic generation, attosecond science applications.

Background: Robin is a Professor and is on the Faculty of the Physics Department, University of Toronto, Canada. He is on a sabbatical at Trinity College, Oxford and the Central Laser Facility.
