OCTOPUS

OCTOPUS (Optics Clustered to OutPut Unique Solutions) is a new concept in laser imaging, in which multiple light sources are linked to multiple imaging stations allowing a combination of techniques to be brought to bear on the samples under investigation.

OCTOPUS is at the heart of the Functional Biosystems Imaging group of the restructured Lasers for Science Facility and will eventually (late 2009) be deployed in the Research Complex at Harwell, together with the Molecular Structure Dynamics facility of the LSF.

This group brings together STFC’s core expertise in imaging, including its capabilities in in vivo single molecule fluorescence imaging, multiphoton FLIM microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy and imaging.

The aim is to make this expertise and advanced imaging technology available for collaborative research with the scientific community, through STFC’s peer-review process.
