Bob Bingham - Chair of IUPAP

Professor Bob Bingham

Bob Bingham of the Central Laser Facility has been elected Chair of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Commission C16 Plasma Physics for a period of 3 years starting January 2012.

Bob said of his recent STFC appointment as Chair of the C16 Commission:

"I was elected chair of IUPAP Commission C16 for the period January 2012- December 2014.

My aim is to stimulate and promote international cooperation in physics. In my case to promote plasma physics internationally. This is done by sponsoring international meetings, assist the organising committees. To promote international agreements on the use of symbols, units, nomenclature and standards. To foster free circulation of scientists and encourage research and education. We also have IUPAP sponsored awards that are presented annually."
